This new unit joins the recent acquisition of a 350-ton crane, consolidating Sarens’ position as a key strategic partner for the nation’s key industrial sectors. By participating in all critical phases of heavy lifting and specialized transport -from technical planning to on-site assembly- Sarens provides critical support to mining developments, power generation, transmission networks, oil&gas operations and major civil infrastructure.
This new acquisition comes at a pivotal moment for Tanzania’s economy. Mining continues to act as the primary driver of national economy growth, creating demand for heavy equipment to construct, expand and maintain extraction facilities across remote sites. Concurrently, the country is executing major investments to modernize its energy matrix, prioritizing large-scale power transmission grid expansion and solar energy developments, alongside key oil&gas infrastructure projects. While long-term renewable initiatives also include wind power expansion, the immediate operational focus centers on sustaining mining output and building out strategic industrial and power facilities.
However, executing these industrial developments presents significant logistical challenges. Historically, local market lifting capacity in Tanzania has hovered around 150 tons, with a very limited number of units exceeding 200 tons. Modern mining operations, power distribution hubs, oil&gas structures and renewable facilities increasingly require positioning heavier components at greater heights and under tight schedules. To resolve these supply chain constraints and prevent project delays, Sarens has upgraded its local operation capabilities, adding the new 260-ton unit to its existing fleet of 30-to-150-ton cranes and its 350-ton heavy lift crane.
The new XCMG XCA260H crane is mounted on a five-axle mobile all-terrain platform featuring a power output of 405 kW and a road speed of 80 km/h, allowing for agile movements between different job sites. Its 80-meter main telescopic boom, complemented by its 20-meter luffing jib, facilitates the rapid lifting and installation of large structures and wind components at high working heights, ensuring compliance with defined execution deadlines and significantly reducing equipment immobilization costs.
