In addition to the XLC18000M crawler crane with a 1,300-ton capacity, Sarens has incorporated into its global offering XCA160H all-terrain cranes for rapid transfers and precision work on the ground, and XCR90 crane units for operating in difficult environments and surfaces.
The new XLC18000M will be the first of the new cranes delivered by XCMG to arrive in South Africa, where it will begin operations immediately at a wind farm near Cape Town before providing support to mining and petrochemical projects across Africa.
This incorporation of new cranes responds to a long-term global strategic agreement signed between Sarens and the manufacturer XCMG, which also includes joint R&D collaboration for product development, field applications, smart technologies, and life-cycle services.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, continues to strengthen its operational fleet offering in Southern Africa by receiving new integrated lifting solutions from the prestigious Chinese manufacturer XCMG. This renewal is part of a global effort that includes the acquisition of new mobile and crawler cranes, designed to comprehensively meet the company's needs in the construction, mining, wind energy, and petrochemical sectors in the region, including South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique.
The first crane to arrive in South Africa is the new XLC18000M, a crawler crane with a 1,300-ton capacity that will lead Sarens' efforts in large-scale projects. This new crane is already on its way to South Africa, where it will begin operating immediately at a wind farm in the vicinity of Cape Town, although upon its completion it will focus on providing support to mining and petrochemical projects across the continent. The range of new crawler cranes ordered will cover from 400t to 1300t.
In addition to this crane, Sarens' global effort is complemented by the acquisition of different units characterized by their versatility and power, in order to face any need or demand from its clients, regardless of the complexity or magnitude of the project in which they participate. Among others, Sarens has incorporated into its global fleet:
· XCA260H all-terrain cranes on wheels, high-capacity units offering maximum reach and lifting power for heavy industrial assembly, large-scale bridge and infrastructure construction, and major energy or equipment installation projects.
· XCA160H all-terrain cranes on wheels, making them highly versatile units that allow for rapid transfers and precision work on the ground in road infrastructure and transport projects, industrial assembly in civil construction, or works in the petrochemical and gas sector.
· XCA100H all-terrain cranes on wheels, compact multi-axle units engineered for fast mobility and high efficiency in urban civil construction, structural steel erection, and mid-scale infrastructure jobs in tight spaces.
· QY85KH truck-mounted cranes, designed for rapid highway transport between job sites and quick setup times, making them ideal for agile public works, material handling, and general construction logistics.
· XCR55L5H rough-terrain cranes, compact 4x4 off-road units capable of pick-and-carry operations with stability in harsh, unpaved environments such as open-pit mining, oil and gas fields, or initial site preparation stages.
· XCR90 rough-terrain cranes, designed to operate with stability in demanding environments and surfaces in sectors such as mining, in oilfields, or in initial phases of heavy construction.
Sarens has also included in their order forklifts from 0.5t to 32t, manlifts from 30 meters up to 50 meters and telehandlers from 5t up to 12t.
The bulk acquisition of machinery manufactured by XCMG responds to a long-term global strategic agreement signed between both parties, which was consolidated following the signing of a bulk purchase contract and a joint R&D plan in March 2026 which, among other details, included the joint development of products, field applications, smart technologies, and life-cycle services. With this agreement, Sarens seeks not only to add new machinery to its fleet, but to incorporate smart technology (such as the operational AI or the fuel-saving systems present in the XLC18000M or the reduction in assembly time of this model) to be able to respond with maximum confidence to the infrastructure demands of the global market and the South African market in particular.
According to Tim Biesemans, Regional Director - Southern Africa at Sarens, “The addition of this fleet is a significant step forward for heavy lifting in Southern Africa, enabling us to better serve wind energy, petrochemical, mining, and construction projects with greater capability and confidence.”
