This expansion project, which started in 2020, is aimed at improving the capacity and efficiency of the port of Balikpapan, and is part of the Indonesian government's initiative to modernise its ports and strengthen the country's logistics.
Sarens has recently joined the Balikpapan port infrastructure expansion works on behalf of Pt. BMKU Tripatra Interport with the installation of a 103-ton deodorizer unit that will improve air quality in the port area.
Interport Balikpapan Project will be an important boost to the Indonesian economy and trade, consolidating Kalimantan's port infrastructure as one of the main logistics hub for the country, facilitating the transport of goods and connections with other areas of Indonesia and the world. Started in 2020, this expansion project is part of the Indonesian government's initiative to modernise its ports and thus strengthen the country's logistics.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, has recently joined the expansion of the Balikpapan port infrastructure with the installation of a new deodorizer unit for materials weighing more than 103 tons on behalf of Pt. BKMU Tripartita Interport. This unit will contribute to improving air quality in the port area and adjacent areas, reducing odours and ensuring compliance with local environmental standards.
To carry out this installation, Sarens has moved a CC2500 crane unit by barge from Cilegon (Java Island), that will work together with an LR1250 crane supplied by PT. Interport, which will carry out the tailing work. Both cranes will handle weights of more than 103 tons, which they will lift to 60 meters with a radius of 22 meters. In total, the Sarens team deployed on this project is made up of 10 people, including operators, riggers and assistants, plus two additional workers in charge of the safety of the operations.
According to Isa Syarif, Country Manager for Sarens in Indonesia, “The agility with which Sarens can move any crane from its international fleet to the project location and the ability to choose precisely the right machinery to suit our customers’ needs has been key in this case. We are extremely committed to the development schedule for this project, so we are very pleased that we were able to deliver our CC2500 crane on time and ensure our customer's satisfaction”.
Sarens has more than 60 years of international experience in the development and installation of strategically important projects. The company has been recently involved in the expansion of Krakatau International Port and in the maintenance of the Asahimas Chemical plant both in Cilegon, Indonesia. Sarens was also recently commissioned by PTSC M&C for the load out of an LQUP jacket weighing more than 4,500 tons in Vietnam that will be dedicated to the extraction of oil and gas in the Bay of Bengal.
