The country's largest gas field contains a significant additional quantity of gas on top of those already discovered, estimated at 240 trillion cubic feet, which brings the State of Qatar's gas reserves to more than 2,000 trillion cubic feet.
Qatar plans to reach an annual LNG production of 142 million tons by 2030. The size of the Qatari LNG market is expected to grow from $74.60 billion in 2024 to $103.41 billion in 2028, at a compound annual rate of 6.75%. This expansion of the Qatari market falls within an overall industry growth framework, in which between January and February 2024 global LNG exports increased by 4%.
Recent geopolitical factors have modified the established LNG supply scheme, and have opened up a great opportunity for countries in the MENA region to supply this gas to Europe, whose imports previously depended up to 40% on the Russian pipeline.
In this context, Qatar plans to increase its annual LNG production capacity by 13%, adding an additional 16 million tons per year. Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, is positioned as a strategic partner for the LNG industry thanks to its comprehensive portfolio of cranes and SMPTs, the expertise of its personnel and its proven experience in the sector.
It has recently emerged that North Field, the largest gas field in the country, contains huge additional quantities of gas beyond those already discovered, estimated at 240 trillion cubic feet, bringing the State of Qatar's gas reserves from 1,760 trillion cubic feet to more than 2,000 trillion cubic feet. This presents a great opportunity for the industry, but a major technical challenge in transporting the product for its processing and export operations.
Sarens is a reputable provider of precise and technical transportation of gas platforms, based on meticulous planning, advanced logistics strategies and state-of-the-art equipment. Sarens has been closely involved in the North Field project for its customer PT. Mcdermott Indonesia, where it performed the weighing of 3 topsides, SPMT transfers (up to 156 a/l) and the load of 6 jackets and 3 topsides. To carry out this work, Sarens' team supplied modular beams and ballasted the barges during loading.
Recently, Sarens has collaborated with Qatar Fabrication Company W.L.L (QFAB) in the construction of several offshore jackets for Qatar Gas. Sarens has been able to establish a long-term relationship with QFAB that started in 2019, whereby the company has based its engineering studies and lifting calculations on Sarens cranes, making them the main choice to carry out this project.
The proliferation of LNG extraction and processing projects in Qatar can make use of Sarens comprehensive engineering services, which are tailored to the specific needs of each client, helping to carry out the construction, maintenance, repair and renovation of structures at gas extraction and processing plants.
Sarens' team of experienced engineering professionals possess specialized knowledge in performing complex structural calculations. With in-depth knowledge of structural mechanics, load capacities and safety factors to accurately assess and determine the most effective solutions for each case, developing customized solutions.

Together with McDermott, the company took part of the heavy lifting and load out operations at Jabel Ali as well as at Batam for Saudi Aramco’s Marjan Field Package 1, as well as the upgrade and improvement works of PT Pertamina refinery in Balikpapan, Indonesia. Also, for North Field Oil projects (Qatar Energy) Sarens was contracted by Seatrium to conduct the weighing, loadout and ballasting for two Bridges units, two Jackets and two Topsides utilizing up to 132 a/l for the Gallaf 2 project in Batam, Indonesia.
