The Co-Op group is currently the seventh largest supermarket chain in Britain, with approximately a quarter of the quick commerce market volume and more than 2,400 stores nationwide.
Sarens is working together with Technical Retail Services LTD on the comprehensive store refurbishment, providing expertise for the erection and installation of the new equipment in the affected stores.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, will work together with Technical Retail Services LTD on the comprehensive refurbishment of Co-Op stores across the UK, with the aim of improving the shopping experience for shoppers and therefore increasing their revenue.
As part of this work, the Sarens team will be responsible for providing the necessary equipment for the lifting of the materials used in the renovation of each affected store, as well as the relocation of the cranes and other devices used depending on the needs of each site.
This time, Sarens will lift loads of between 50 and 500 tons with different models of cranes, and will use skates and jacks to move these heavy loads, with a technical team of between 4 and 10 people for each project undertaken.
With different stores spread across the UK, each project is different, with different scopes of work and needs. For this reason, the Sarens team is demonstrating a great capacity to adapt to changing conditions, seeking at all times the satisfaction of its end customer, and ensuring the safety of the equipment and the environment.
Co-Op's store refurbishment program not only affects their visual appearance, but also allows new services to be incorporated into each store that benefit the community, such as dispensers for cash withdrawals or areas dedicated to plastic recycling, which tie in with the group's commitment to return part of its profits to its users and cooperative members. In addition to this program, Co-Op plans to open 120 new food stores throughout the UK by the end of this year.
The Sarens UK team has extensive experience in the country. They have been able to support the construction of the Hinkley Point C power station using the SGC250 ring crane known as Big Carl, the largest land based crane in the world. Sarens has also undertaken the Process Module and Process plant movements and lifts for the FAST project at the Fawley refinery, the installation of a 5000te concrete culvert on the rail line close to Glasgow, as well the movement of a 4000te ship block for new Class 26 Frigates. Recently the company has completed the major civil engineering elements lifted in the Thames Tideway Tunnel project. Using a purpose-built SPMT mounted gantry crane, Sarens lifted and moved a cover slab 1200T weight into place during an operation lasting 5 hours.
