The world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services used up to six cranes with varying capacities from 20 to 160T for the lifting the equipment needed for the maintenance of the plant.
Sarens started their work in New Caledonia over a decade ago with their involvement in the construction of two of three production units -Goro Plant in Yaté and Koniambo Plant in Voh-.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, has been directly involved in the major shutdown works at the Goro Nickel plant, in charge of lifting the equipment needed for the maintenance of the plant from October to November 2023.
For this works, Sarens deployed six of its cranes with capacities ranging from 20 to 160 tons, including its new AC 150-5 and AC5.140-1 units, to the job site in an isolated environment approximately one and a half hours from any possible assistance.
To carry out these maintenance tasks, Sarens worked in alignment with the needs of Prony Resources, so it was necessary an intense planning to cover 24/7 shifts during the six weeks of operation, in order to minimize downtime and maximize plant productivity. To bolster Sarens’ efforts, additional crane operators from France were brought in, supplementing their local team. Additionally, a supervisor from the UK branch lent his expertise to the works, overseeing operations to guarantee precision and adherence to the highest standards.
It’s important to note that any breakdown in the crane fleet used during this project could have potentially resulted important delays in production restart. During this shutdown, Sarens minimized nearly all downtime thanks to the fleet’s excellent condition and the expertise of the team involved.
Sarens history in New Caledonia
Sarens has been present in New Caledonia for a decade, since its involvement in the construction of two of three production units - Goro Plant in Yaté and Koniambo Plant in Voh - which marked the genesis of its partnership with the region's industrial sector.
By the end of 2021, Sarens' participation in the NHC Project at the Goro Plant reaffirmed its position thanks to the transport and lifting of a 130-ton boiler, as well as 3x90 ton tanks. This work opened the door for Sarens to participate in the Lucy Project, a job that has been extended from April 2022 to December 2023.
Sarens has a dedicated business unit in New Caledonia, working with local crane operators and providing them with top-tier training.
