Today, India has already reached more than 40 GW of installed onshore wind capacity, making it the world's fourth largest market in terms of installed wind capacity.
Sarens will be a key partner in the consecution of this ambitious objective thanks to its advanced fleet of cranes and SPMTs and its high quality and safety standards.
Recent ground investigations indicate that India has a gigantic gross wind potential of 302 GW at 100 meters and 695.50 GW at 120 meters above ground level, a total of almost 1TW in the next years. In this context of opportunity, this country has decided to bet heavily on onshore wind energy to help with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2070 thanks to its vast expanse of land with high potential for harnessing wind power.
The construction of the wind structures needed to boost energy generation requires advanced machinery and precise workmanship. Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, continues to consolidate its position as a reference player for the global wind industry, offering a comprehensive solution in the case of onshore wind farms, by providing integral TCI (Transport, Crane and Installation) services and factory to foundation solutions, as well as marshalling, which is a competitive advantage for the development of any project, regardless of its magnitude.
Nowadays, after more than three decades of investing in the development of harnessing wind technology for power generation, India's wind power generation capacity has increased considerably in recent years. They already have almost 43 GW of installed onshore wind capacity, which is mainly spread across the southern, western and northwestern states. This makes the country the world's fourth largest market for installed wind capacity, only behind China, the United States and Germany.
However, this figure is still far short of India's ambitious target of 140 GW (of which 30 GW will be offshore wind) of installed wind power capacity by 2030. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has estimated that wind power will account for 17.13% (140 GW) of installed capacity by 2029-2030 to ensure an optimal generation capacity mix.
There are currently more than 100 onshore wind farm facilities active in India. The following stand out for being the most significant ones: Muppandal wind farm, the largest operational onshore wind farm in India, located in Tamil Nadu. It has an installed capacity of 1,500 MW, making it the third largest operational onshore wind farm in the world; Jaisalmer wind farm, which is the second largest wind farm in India and the fourth largest operational onshore wind farm in the world. This project is located in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, in western India; and Brahmanvel, located in Maharashtra, with 40MW of power generation.
Sarens has participated in the construction and maintenance projects of some of the Onshore Wind plants in India, demonstrating its commitment to a greener planet and more sustainable energy generation, working together with companies such as Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions, GE Wind Energy or Inox Wind, performing performed transport, crane and installation works. In India, Sarens has taken part of key importance projects such as the 1.5 GW wind farm in Muppandal, Tamil Nadu and the 1.1 GW project in Jaisalmer, Rajastha.
Sarens is also currently participating in some of the most important projects in the world, such as Saint-Nazaire in France, Provence Grand Large. Those works demonstrate how important is having specialists able to ensure the viability of the project and minimize cost reductions. Sarens will continue putting its efforts to provide companies and public institutions with the necessary tools to enable the wind industry to continue to expand.
