Rising demand for plastics and resins has boosted ethylene and propylene manufacturing, leading the sector to its highest revenue since 2014, at nearly $80bn.
In a context of maximum demand, Sarens, a key player in recent years in multitude development of petrochemical projects around the world, recalls the importance of renovating and upgrading petrochemical plants to ensure their maximum performance.
Sarens has recently carried out a refurbishment project in Texas alongside with Optimized Process Designs (OPD) for the erection of three towers and 5 PDCs (Power Distribution Centers).
The North American petrochemical sector will continue a growth path thanks to the boost in demand for plastics and resins in recent months. Thus, ethylene and prophylene production has led the sector to predictably close the year with 30% growth and the highest annual revenue since 2018, with a projection of almost $80bn.
This impulse also comes at a time of maximum demand, in which companies in the sector are forced to explore new ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced during the manufacture of their derivatives as a way to reach net-zero by 2050, an effort that, according to BloombergNEF, could require an investment of $759 billion worldwide for plants renovation.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental, and a key player in the development and construction of a multitude of petrochemical projects around the world, recalls the importance of renovating and upgrading the plants of the 64 companies currently operating in the USA to ensure they can cope with the growing demand for plastics and derivatives and, at the same time, to meet the challenges of gradually reducing emissions to net-zero in just three decades.
In this regard, Sarens is already working with U.S. petrochemical market leaders such as Optimized Process Designs (OPD) to build and upgrade new plants. Recently, the two companies have worked together in a project in Texas, to which Sarens has contributed with the erection of three towers thanks to the use of two CC6800 and CC1400 crane units, in addition to other Rough Terrain and Crawler cranes for the development of the project.
During these works, Sarens strategically staged main vessels to lift from one location, and hauled and set 5 PDCs (Power Distribution Centers) using 12-line SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporters), that were also used hauling various items onsite as needed.
For years, Sarens has led various projects aimed at strengthening the petrochemical sector in the USA. An example of this is the construction and improvement work carried out at the Corpus Christi refinery (Texas), carried out together with Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR). Previously, this company executed the transport of an 81m-long propylene rectifying tower in San Leon, Texas using K-25 trailers.
