With nearly 17,000 wind turbines currently in operation according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Texas is the state with the highest penetration of this type of energy generation, almost tripling Iowa (6,538 units) and California (5,665 units).
Sarens, global specialist in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental, has recently opened new office facilities in Odessa, Texas, in order to make its international experience in similar projects around the world available to companies and public entities involved in the development of new facilities and the maintenance of existing ones.
Wind energy has already established itself as the second most important energy source in Texas, accounting for almost 21% of all generation in the state, behind only that produced by natural gas (48.82%), according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Texas is also the American state with the highest number of wind turbines installed, with 16,737 units, a figure that is almost three times the number of units installed in Iowa (6,538 units) and California (5,665 units).
With approximately 36,808 MW installed and other 4,418 MW under construction according to the American Clean Power Association, the 150 existing wind farms have enough capacity to power more than 250,000 homes across the state, making them especially important to sustain power supply during the months of July and August, when the area-wide heat wave caused peak demand of up to 75 GW per day.
In this context, in which the demand for wind energy, which is inexhaustible and does not generate any waste in its production, continues to grow compared to other sources such as natural gas, the public administration and private companies responsible for the operation of wind infrastructures are increasingly seeking the support and advice of companies such as Sarens, global specialist in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental, which have experience in hundreds of projects around the world, to ensure the choice of the right machinery for each installation, precision in the transport and lifting of each infrastructure in the case of new farms, as well as the preventive and corrective maintenance of existing ones.
In order to favour a closer contact with those companies and institutions requiring specialised services for wind, but also for the development of oil&gas projects in the region, and to be able to offer a quicker response to their requirements for machinery or advisory personnel, Sarens has opened a new office in Odessa, Texas. At this new facility, specifically targeted at customers in western Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, the company will offer full crane and rigging services, engineering and transportation. Sarens already counts with available equipment on site such as hydraulic cranes, crawler cranes or SPMTs.
With this strategic move, Sarens reaffirms its commitment to the development of wind energy in Texas in particular and in the USA in general. This company owns extensive international experience in the assembly and maintenance of wind farms. It has participated in installations in countries such as South Africa, where it took part in the Karusa and Soetwater plant projects; in Sweden, at the Markbygden wind farm; or more recently, in the transport work for the foundation bases of the new offshore wind farm in Saint Brieuc, off the French Brittany coast, where it has been able to transport loads of more than 1,150 tons.
