Sarens was involved, in Maputo, on operations to assist the FLNG (Floating liquefied natural gas) which once inaugurated in mid-2022, will be one of the largest in the world.
Sarens, global leader and reference in heavy lifting and engineered transport, reaffirms its position as an important partner in large-scale projects, thanks to its involvement in operations for Oil&Gas in Mozambique. This project is a part of Coral South, the first offshore project in the African country, that will be aimed at the extraction and sale of natural gas and will bring numerous jobs and economic benefits to the country.
Coral South Project will have world's deepest FLNG facility with wells drilled nearly 2000 meters deep. Six wells in total will flow into the liquefaction unit. Once it starts its operations in mid-2022, it will be able to extract 450 billion cubic meters of gas from the site, which will mean a total volume of 3.4 million tons of natural gas per year.
Sarens was ready on site for unloading and lifting the mooring chains that attach the FLNG installation to the offshore drilling surface, which allows for the hook-up and conduct of natural gas extraction operations.
In order to manage the liftings required for this project, Sarens shipped a 250T hook block capacity, which is capable of lifting the chains needed in this project, in addition to the hook block the CC1100 crane had an LH configuration and 7.25m of track, an 80 tons counterweight was also required to balance the lifting operations, and an additional 42m jib.
The project lasted three months, from planning, equipment test trial and execution. Thanks to the directly and indirectly collaboration and participation of the entire Sarens team, the operation was successfully completed on schedule.
Sarens has been capable of carrying out similar operations, which will represent a milestone for Oil&Gas segment in Mozambique, thanks to their local staff. Sarens have been recruiting and forming for 12 years. Having been present in the country for more than a decade, Sarens has developed its portfolio in several fields, from mining, construction, port operations and oil & gas.
Sarens currently continue to be part of key projects and positively intervened on relevant projects in Mozambique as O&G Coral South Project Area 4 Handling Xtmas trees in Nacala; Load out Mooring Chains&Reel; Rehabilitation of Nacala Harbour Project; Discharging heavy Transformers at Nacala Port; O&G offloading pontoon alongside EBL (Early Beach Landing) in Afungi; Maputo Port Rehabilitation Project; Heavy Engines Replacement Project at Cement Factory in Maputo; Moatize Phase 1 Project; Vale Mine CHP Project; Sasol Pipe Installation in Temane; FTC Reactor Replacement at Mozal Maputo; Lifting & Transport Services Project at Mocimboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado and at the same time focus on the local content and communities.
Thanks to its global presence, Sarens is able to respond to any possible need that may arise in the projects in which it participates, either with its technical infrastructure already present at the destination, or by transferring the required equipment from anywhere in the world. This facilitates the work of engineering teams, who can plan their work with the certainty that they will have the appropriate machinery to fulfill their goals.
