According to Eurostat data, last November registered an annual growth in construction production in the eurozone and the EU of 1.4% and 0.9% respectively, placing Belgium in third position, with a growth of 4.2%, only behind Spain and Bulgaria.
In a very favorable context for growth throughout 2025, Sarens positions itself as an ideal partner for the economic and social development of the construction industry in the different regions of the country.
According to data from Eurostat, last November 2024 registered a growth in construction production in the Eurozone and the EU. These data show an increase of 1.2% in the eurozone and 1.3% in the EU, compared to the previous month of October, and an annual increase of 1.4% and 0.9% respectively. While civil engineering construction experienced a growth of 0.5%, specialized construction activities grew by 1.2% in the Eurozone. Overall, Belgium ranked third among the member states, recording a growth of 4.2%, only behind Spain and Bulgaria, and is expected to grow steadily by a further 2% through to 2025, according to the Confédération Construction.
These data show a rather optimistic outlook regarding the possible growth of the sector throughout 2025, positioning construction companies and investors as the main agents of change within the industry. In this regard, Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport, and crane rental services, stands out as one of the most important players thanks to its extensive experience in both national and international projects. With the most advanced machinery in the world and a team of highly qualified professionals, the company headquartered in Wolvertem establishes itself as a guarantee of efficiency to continue driving the growth of this industry.
Among the national projects in which Sarens has been involved is the construction of the new port infrastructure for Genk Green Logistics in the port of Limburg, which will provide the logistics complex with a new barge outlet of around 250,000 m2, boosting the industrialisation of the area. Throughout this project, commissioned by Künz for LDM, the Sarens team was responsible for the assembly of two barge cranes, for which it had to move some of its most advanced cranes to the site, including the Liebherr LTM1150, LTM1300, LTM1350, as well as a Demag AC700, to meet the challenge presented by the project in terms of manoeuvrability space.
Another of the projects that demonstrate Sarens' expertise within the industry is its participation in the replacement of the railway bridge over the Barebeek, whose structure had to be renovated and replaced. For the operation, carried out on behalf of the client Mols Contractors, Sarens' engineering team used a Demag AC700 in WiHi24m configuration with a lifting capacity of 110 tons, for the lifting of the 85-ton pieces, whose main challenge was the placement, in a reduced workspace, of the platforms between the catenary cables, which was carried out effectively and within the established time.
Within this context of growth, it is worth highlighting the government's investment in the Regional Recovery Plan, through which €4.3 billion is allocated to the construction sector in the Walloon region with the aim of supporting national companies and preserving employment within the industry. Sarens was also able to participate in projects within this region, one of the most recent being near Damré, with the construction of the new Sprimont onshore wind farm, where it was able to install the turbines and unload the components on behalf of Nordex, lifting loads ranging from 17 to 65 tonnes at heights of up to 83 metres.
Bert Kustermans, Project Manager at Sarens, says: "The construction sector in Belgium is in good shape. The figures recorded indicate a growing trend that gives rise to optimistic expectations for the industry and, in particular, for the companies. We at Sarens are proud to have played our part over the past year 2024, participating in a long list of projects in the country, which undoubtedly contributes to this growth and helps to create jobs in the different regions".
Sarens has a long track record in Belgium, having assisted Cargill in the maintenance of its facilities and having participated in the assembly of several of the stages for Tomorrowland 2023. Sarens has also established itself as a key player on the international construction scene, having also participated in the renovation of the century-old Colbert Bridge in Dieppe (France) and the installation of the 5,850 tonne OA14 bridge in Bettembourg (Luxembourg), consolidating the Belgian company as an ideal partner for economic and social development.
