With this project, Sarens is participating in the development of West Belut, Sisi Nubi AOI Project package A & B, as well as Terubuk L & M , contributing to further increase oil and gas production targets.
Sarens and Meindo began their cooperation in 2021 with weighing work and loading services for Pertamina's first national project, and since then Sarens has become the exclusive supplier for the provision of these services.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, on behalf of its customer Meindo, is working on the weighing and loading of various items such as jackets and topsides for three major oil and gas industry projects in Bintan, Indonesia. The work, which has been underway since June 2024 and is expected to be completed in June 2025, is being carried out at the Meitech Eka Bintan shipyard.
To handle this complex project involving technical and engineering solutions, Sarens is using a wide range of weighing equipment that can accommodate the three projects, from 150-ton to 600-ton load cells. A maximum of 56 SPMT axles and 4 PPUs are required for the transport, with a maximum weight of 1100 tons in one of the jackets. In order to ensure that the entire project runs smoothly, that the safety of everyone involved is a priority and that the deadlines agreed with the client are met, Sarens has a team of seven on site, including the senior project engineer, an SHE consultant, a supervisor and four operators.
Sarens and Meindo started their cooperation in 2021 when the company was entrusted with the weighing and loading services for Pertamina's first national project, and following this work, Sarens has been the exclusive supplier for the provision of these services. This is thanks to the company's extensive experience and problem-solving approach, which has made it a partner of the client, Meindo, in the joint execution of these national projects.
For West Belut, Sarens carries out the weighing and transportation of a topside weighing 500 tons. This project, located in Block B of the South Natuna Sea, stands out for its innovative solutions in sustainability and energy efficiency, as it is 100% powered by photovoltaic energy for its operations. It also stands out for being an unmanned facility, which almost eliminates the possibility of occupational hazards and reduces operating costs. The gas field was discovered in 2020, and after the development process, production began in September 2024. The project has a production capacity of 55 million standard cubic feet per day.
On the other hand, for the Sisi Nubi AOI Project package A & B Sarens is in charge of the transportation of 6 Jackets, with a weight of 1100 tons each, as well as 6 Topsides, with a weight of 400 tons each. This project, which contributes 160 million standard cubic feet per day to Indonesia's gas coffers, is located in the Mahakam Field, one of the country's main gas and condensate producing areas. Each of the Packages (A&B) relate to specific phases of the project, the first being the construction of the initial infrastructure required for gas extraction, including drilling platforms, support systems and pipelines. Phase 2, on the other hand, focuses on the expansion and optimization of existing structures with the objective of increasing production capacity and efficiency.
The third project for which Sarens is performing weighing and transport of heavy loads is Terubuk Field, also located in Natuna Sea. Here the Sarens engineering team is in charge of transporting 2 sets of ZEEPOD jackets. This is because the Terubuk L & M plant, in particular, uses the ZEEPOD method of construction and installation. This method divides the Jacket into 3 parts, which are assembled offshore, saving costs by reducing the crane capacity required at sea. However, the use of these parts involves a certain difficulty, as due to their slim profile and high CoG, ZEEPOD jackets are extremely critical for transportation. To address this, Sarens designed special plates to mechanically attach the jacket to the SPMT via side plates and welds, enhancing safety and ensuring smooth transportation.
Richard Andrianto, project manager at Sarens, comments, "We are very pleased with the work we are doing at the Meitech Eka Bintan shipyard together with our client Meindo. With this work, we are contributing to the development of three important national oil and gas projects in Indonesia to further increase production targets on a national scale."
Sarens has extensive experience internationally in the oil & gas sector. Together with McDermott, the company took part of the heavy lifting and load out operations at Jabel Ali as well as at Batam for Saudi Aramco’s Marjan Field Package 1, as well as the upgrade and improvement works of PT Pertamina refinery in Balikpapan, Indonesia. Also, for North Field Oil projects (Qatar Energy) Sarens was contracted by Seatrium to conduct the weighing, loadout and ballasting for two Bridges units, two Jackets and two Topsides utilizing up to 132 a/l for the Gallaf 2 project in Batam, Indonesia.
