The construction of this new plant is in addition to the expansion of acrylic acid production in the region, which already stands at 240,000 tons per year, to meet the increased demand for this compound in the Asian market.
Sarens is directly involved in the expansion works of the plant located in Cilegon (Indonesia), collaborating in the transfer of heavy machinery and process equipment by means of a 70-ton crane.
Nippon Shokubai Indonesia's plant in Cilegon will be able to produce up to 140,000 tons per year of superabsorbent polymers (SAP) once its construction process, scheduled for 2027, is completed. With the construction of this new plant, NSI will increase the production of the existing infrastructure, which already produces 90,000 tons per year of this material used mainly for the production of infant and adult diapers.
The decision to increase SAP production at Cilegon corresponds to the continued increase in demand for this material, especially in the Asian market and in those regions where the population will increase rapidly in the coming years. NSI had already recently decided to increase acrylic acid production in Indonesia to 100,000 tons per year from the current 240,000 tons.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, is directly involved in the construction of the new plant, providing its expertise for the transport of various heavy machinery and process equipment by means of a 70-ton crane. Previously, the Sarens engineering team carried out a thorough study to assess the conditions of the factory's environment and the stability and integrity of its soil to ensure that the conditions were suitable for the crane's work. The model used was chosen taking into account the size of the area in which it was to operate, thus ensuring maximum efficiency and the safety of its operators.
To facilitate the heavy lifting operation, the Sarens crane does not remain fixed at a single point, but is moved longitudinally and rotated in place by its operators to position each load as precisely as possible. All this in an environment with very limited space for each movement.
Construction of the new plant, which required an investment of approximately $110 million, is expected to be completed in January 2027, although it will not be commercialized until July of the same year.
Sarens has more than 60 years of international experience in the development and installation of strategically important projects. The company has been recently involved in the Clean Fuel Project works in Thailand, in the expansion of the S-Oil plant in Ulsan, South Korea, in the construction of the Petroperu refinery in Talara (Peru), and in the Skikda refinery in Algeria among others. Sarens was also recently commissioned by PTSC M&C for the load out of an LQUP jacket weighing more than 4,500 tons in Vietnam that will be dedicated to the extraction of oil and gas in the Bay of Bengal.
