Although the sector continues to face some important challenges, normalization of the supply chain as well as public and private funds will allow investment for next year to stabilise at $354.9 billion next year.
Sarens reaffirms its commitment to the Canadian construction industry by providing its expertise in cost reduction and process optimisation in both project planning and execution, thereby contributing to the recovery of the sector and the maintenance of the Canadian workforce.
Sarens has recently participated in the construction of the new Watson Parkway Apartments residential building in Guelph, ON, contributing to the dismantling of one of the tower cranes after its use was completed.
The construction sector in Canada continues to recover its pre-2020 growth figures, and according to a report by Randstad will increase its investment in 2024 by more than 8.5% to US $354.9 billion, contributing to the country's economy by employing more than 1.2 million people, equivalent to 7% of the entire Canadian workforce.
Although, according to the consultancy Linesight, the construction sector will end 2023 with a contraction of 0.9% due to the materials supply crisis and inflation-driven price increases, it is expected to return to growth in 2024 in virtually all segments.
At a time when general price increases and material delivery delays have led to an approximate 80% setback in the completion times, companies like Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental, are helping to reduce costs and lead times through their work and planning, which in turn is an important support to the industry.
Sarens has recently been involved in the dismantling of one of the tower cranes used by Oxford Builders in the construction of one of the new apartment complexes being built in Guelph, Ontario. Located at 426 Watson Parkway, one of the city's main arteries, this development will contribute to the renewal of residential space in the region and, at the same time, to the decarbonisation of buildings driven by the Green Buildings Strategy included in the 2022 federal budget.
For this project, Sarens undertook a major pre-planning study to define precisely where the crane unit used, an LTM1500, should be positioned and that each of the seven loading and unloading operations carried out, to dismantle the tower crane would be carried out in an orderly fashion, without safety risks, and without any impact on traffic in the area. In total, it took Sarens 10 hours to complete the entire operation, including the move from its Cambridge, ON branch to the site, the deployment of the 276' crane boom and the loading of the crane components, weighing approximately 30,000lbs.
According to Luke Goodfellow, Area Manager for Sarens, "This is a momentous time for the construction industry in our country. We are pleased that Sarens can bring over 60 years of international experience to the projects we are involved in, so that they can have a positive impact on our community, both in terms of employment and decarbonisation. We will continue to work to ensure that our involvement also translates into a reduction in the costs associated with our tasks”.
