Sarens has provided its complete TCI (Transport, Crane and Installation) package for the first time in the Indian market at the Jaguluru wind power plant in Karnataka.
The Jaguluru plant is a hybrid wind-solar facility, which generates more constant power by combining both energy sources. The project will save about 46,740 tons of CO2 per year and has employed about 700 people.
Sarens selected the Sany 800A model as the main crane for this project because of its high efficiency and ease of erection.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental solutions, has been entrusted with the lifting of sixteen EN3.3MW 140mHH wind turbines at the Jagaluru hybrid plant in Karnataka, India. This TCI (Transport, Crane and Installation) project is the first of its kind in the country, carried out for its client CleanMax.
The Jagaluru plant is a wind-solar hybrid (WSH) solution site as it integrates both energy sources and takes advantage of their complementary nature. Due to this complementary nature, the wind-solar hybrid plant is able to generate more consistent power output compared to standard plants, whether solar or wind, because the power generation is more evenly distributed throughout the day.
CleanMax has implemented this WSH solution for one of the world's largest data center companies, which will get approximately 90% of its power demand from the project, about 13.5 MW with about 52% solar hybridization.
The wind-solar hybrid power plant is expected to generate about 57 million units of electricity per year and reduce about 46,740 tons of CO2 per year. The wind capacity has already been installed and commissioned, while the solar capacity is being added gradually and will be operational soon.
In addition to its environmental benefits the project has also brought social and economic improvements to the surrounding communities, including temporary employment opportunities during project construction and permanent employment opportunities in project operations and maintenance. The project has employed an estimated 600-700 people.
Precise planning and specialized machinery were required for this demanding project. The Sarens team consequently selected the Sany 800A with HJFJDB_5 _ 150 main boom + 12 m fly jib configuration as the main crane, as it can easily lift critical weights safely. Its high efficiency and ease of erection made it the ideal crane for the project.
The equipment required for the project was transported to the site from Gujarat and erected in about two days. According to Saravanan K, associate Vice President of Sarens' wind division, "The team faced several hurdles and challenges during the logistics of the wind turbine, but our operations experts managed it with a proper risk assessment and mitigation plan."
The wind turbine components, including the tower frame, nacelle, hub and blades, were shipped and assembled from Gujarat to the site. The nacelle, weighing 90 tons, was lifted to a height of 140 meters. More than 40 people were involved in the transport phase, about seven in unloading and fourteen in lifting and installation.
Sarens owns extensive international experience in the assembly and maintenance of wind farms. It has participated in installations in countries such as South Africa, where it took part in the Karusa and Soetwater plant projects; in Sweden, at the Markbygden wind farm; or more recently, in the transport work for the foundation bases of the new offshore wind farm in Saint Brieuc, off the French Brittany coast, where it has been able to transport loads of more than 1,150 tons.
