The Canadian mining and metallurgy sector are thriving after the assignment of CAD $2 billion as part of a strategy to accelerate the extraction of minerals considered essential for the manufacture of electric batteries to boost the domestic automotive industry.
Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineering transport and a reference in crane rental services, has entered into a long-term agreement - 5 years - with one of the world's leading steel manufacturing and mining companies; ArcelorMittal Dofasco, specialized in mining, exportation and creation of better quality and lighter steel and flat carbon steel, responsible for the shipment of 4.5 million tons of steel products each year.
Through this collaboration Sarens will provide fully operated and maintained crane services that will help to cover the ongoing maintenance support needs of the factory \located in Hamilton, Ontario, allowing fast and easy maintenance works on the Hamilton facility infrastructure to allow the seamless and ongoing exportations and collaborations with industries that utilize the diverse products produced that go from cars to packaging, construction, and machinery modules.
These synergies boost jobs positions in the country; according to a report published by The Government of Canada in 2019, the mining sector, including extraction, primary processing and downstream metal product manufacturing, offers jobs to 426.000 people, from which ArcelorMittal Canada accounts for 10,000 and ArcelorMittal Dofasco for 5,000. This industry also accounts to be the main work provider for indigenous people in Canada, according to The Mining Association of Canada.
The extensive experience of Sarens in Canada should be highlighted, due to the number of projects in which it has been an essential partner, in industries dedicated to civil engineering and infrastructure, but also energy and transportation. Some of the notable works carried out by Sarens in Eastern Canada are the extension of Union Station or the Champlain Bridge renovation in Montreal. With these projects, the international company demonstrates its extensive experience in large-scale projects and its ability to adapt to the different conditions of each work.
Due to Sarens’ background, mentioned projects and recent investment by the government, which promotes works around the mining and metallurgy industries, Sarens has achieved a long-term agreement with one of the biggest steel and iron players in Canada, ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton, Ontario.
This partnership reinforces Sarens’ position in Canada as one of the companies with better adaptability and capacity to undertake complex projects that demand a larger infrastructure and machinery, offering also technical solutions tailored made for each project if required and a team full of experts in engineering and transportation.
